“But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.” Mark 3:29

This has been touted as teaching the unpardonable sin. As scary as this may sound, the verse right before it is very encouraging:

“Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme.”

This reminds us of the promise in Acts 13:39:

“By him all that believe are justified from all things.”

So what is this terrible sin to which Jesus claims there is not forgiveness? Jesus said these things in response to the statement by the scribes in verse 22:

“And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.”

Apparently, the scribes had already blasphemed the Holy Spirit, yet Jesus did not condemn them at this time, but rather warned them of being in danger of a future judgment. So the blasphemy to which Jesus was referring as being without forgiveness was a continued blasphemy until the coming judgment.

What exactly did these scribes teach that was so bad? They attacked the person of Jesus Christ by saying that he was aligned with Satan, and they attacked the work of Jesus Christ by saying that He did His work by the power of Satan rather than the Holy Spirit. The attack was significant in that it denied the two things that a person must believe in order to have eternal life. It denied the person and work of Jesus Christ.

In similar manner, if a person does not believe that Jesus is God the Father who came to earth, he is denying the person of Jesus Christ, and if a person does not believe that Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection is sufficient to save them and keep them saved, then they have denied the work of Jesus Christ. That person is also in danger of eternal judgment.

If you have never accepted the truths of the person and work of Jesus Christ by trusting Jesus’ death payment on the cross, all you Have to do is believe that Jesus is God the Father who came to earth to pay for all of your sin so you can go to heaven by what He did. Trust Him. He is trustworthy.        Dr. Jerry Lloyd

Memory Verse

“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” Acts 1:8

What does the Holy Spirit give to believers?

“Ye shall receive ______________.”

What does the Holy Spirit empower believers to do?

“Ye shall be ________________ unto me.”

“The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.” John 1:7

What is the purpose of a witness?

“That all ________ through him _________ __________.”

Memory Verse

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” John 16:13

When a believer receives the Holy Spirit, how does that help empower the believer to witness?

“He will ______________ you into all _____________ :

…and he will shew you _____________ _____ ________.”

“He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.” John 16:14

Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would glorify whom?

“He shall glorify _______________ .”

Memory Verse

“And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.” Mark 3:22

Of what two things did the scribes (lawyers) accuse Jesus?

“He ____________ Beelzebub, (possessed by the devil)

And ___ ___ ________ of the devils casteth he out devils.”

The attack on Jesus by the scribes from Jerusalem in this verse was also an admission. They make it very clear that Jesus did in fact cast out demons. There was no question there. The accusation was an attack on Jesus’ person and work. Here is an interesting thing, because what must a person do to gain eternal life? All a person must do is believe in the person and work of Jesus Christ. All we must do to get to heaven is believe that Jesus is God the Father who came to Earth in the flesh (His person), and that He took out sin onto Himself thus defeating the power of Satan by paying for all sin. Then He came back from the dead.

Since Jesus paid for all sin He could (and did) say,

“Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme.” Mark 3:28

That being the case, why did Jesus say here that there was one sin that would never be forgiven?

“But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.” Mark 3:29

This statement does not indicate that those men had blasphemed against the Holy Spirit in verse 22 could not receive forgiveness. It only warned that they were in danger of eternal damnation. This would indicate that simply blaspheming against the Holy Spirit is not what cannot be forgiven, but continuing to blaspheme until the judgment will assure that that person will be condemned at the judgment, along with all others who do not accept the payment for their sins before they die.          Dr. Jerry Lloyd

Memory Verse

“And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.” Acts 13:39

What is the condition to be justified?

“All that _________________ are justified from all things.”

What cannot justify us?

“Ye could not be justified by the ____________ of Moses.”

How many believers are justified?

“ _____________ that believe are justified from all things.”

From what things are we justified when we believe?

“All that believe are justified from _____________ things.”

Memory Verse

“Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God.” Philippians 2:6

In the beginning, what form did Jesus have?

“Who, being in the _______________ of God.

Is Jesus equal to God the Father?

“Thought it not robbery to be ______________ with God.”

God the father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are equal, because they are the same God manifested in three different ways. God the father is manifested in His glory. Sin cannot come into the presence of God the Father. Jesus laid aside that glory so that He could come down and walk among sinful man. The Holy Spirit has also limited His glory so He can indwell sinful believers.

Memory Verse

“But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.” Philippians 2:7

How did Jesus become the form of a man?

“______________ _______________ of no reputation,

and took upon him the form of a servant,

and was made in the likeness of men.”

When God the Father chose to become a man, He laid aside His glorious attributes. He was temporarily no longer omnipresent. If He was in Jericho, He was not in Jerusalem. He temporarily laid aside His omniscience and had to “increase in wisdom” while on earth and “learn obedience.” He was no longer omnipotent, but received His power to heal and cast out demons from the Holy Spirit.

Memory Verse

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” Matthew 28:19

In how many names does God command us to be baptized?

“Baptizing them in the _________________ .”

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name (singular) of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Acts 2:38

What is the name (singular) in which God says to be baptized?

“Be baptized every one of you in the name of ________ .”
