Memory Verse
“And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.” Mark 3:22
Of what two things did the scribes (lawyers) accuse Jesus?
“He ____________ Beelzebub, (possessed by the devil)
And ___ ___ ________ of the devils casteth he out devils.”
The attack on Jesus by the scribes from Jerusalem in this verse was also an admission. They make it very clear that Jesus did in fact cast out demons.
There was no question there. The accusation was an attack on Jesus’ person and work. Here is an interesting thing, because what must a person do to gain eternal life? All a person must do is believe in the person and work of Jesus Christ. All we must do to get to heaven is believe that Jesus is God the Father who came to Earth in the flesh (His person
Since Jesus paid for all sin He could (and did) say,
“Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme.” Mark 3:28
That being the case, why did Jesus say here that there was one sin that would never be forgiven?
“But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.” Mark 3:29
This statement does not indicate that those men had blasphemed against the Holy Spirit in verse 22 could not receive forgiveness. It only warned that they were in danger of eternal damnation. This would indicate that simply blaspheming against the Holy Spirit is not what cannot be forgiven, but continuing to blaspheme until the judgment will assure that that person will be condemned at the judgment, along with all others who do not accept the payment for their sins before they die.
