Faith Comes by Hearing

What two things are required before people will understand God’s plan of salvation?

What is faith, anyway?

Memory Verse

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17

First of All

God gives salvation from the lake of fire and the gift of eternal life is based solely on God’s grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.

Secondly

God is also very clear in what we must believe or in what we must have faith. We must have faith that Christ saves us without anything required of us. He will accept no offer of commitment, your heart, your life, a change, confession, submission, or any other work of ourselves to the work of Christ to save us, keep us, or show that we are saved.

God’s only requirement

The only thing we must have faith in is in the name of Jesus Christ. We must believe that Jesus is God who became a man to die and pay for our sins so that we can go to heaven by what He did.

What faith is

God tells us that faith is simply believing God’s promise that He will do what He has said. Specifically, we must believe that He is who He claimed to be, and that he did what He claimed He would do, so that He could accomplished what He has promised to do.

What faith is not

Many have misunderstood what faith is and what it means to believe. In order to generate a feeling of faith, some have resorted to a type of music, a particular time of day, or specific lighting to manipulate man’s faith, while others have blatantly used deceit and trickery such as attaching electrodes to their arms, using earphones to “hear” God’s revelations, and even using human “plants” in the audience to stimulate “seed faith.”  None of these can produce faith.

The origin of faith

God is very clear. He uses His Word to produce faith. In view of the fact that Biblical faith is believing  God’s promises, and all of God’s promises are found in His Word, He requires that the proof of our faith be the Word of God instead of any response of action of our own.

God’s primary promise

What is God’s promise concerning deliverance from the lake of fire and having eternal life?

He answers this question in I John 5:13 where He says, “You that believe on the name of the Son of God … may know that ye have eternal life.” I John 5:13.
