Memory Verse

“And as he sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” Matthew 24:3

After Jesus left the temple mount and walked a short way up the Mt. of Olives, His apostles came to Him with three questions. What were they?

“Tell us, (1) ____________ shall these things be? and

(2) what shall be the ___________of thy coming,

and of the ___________ of the world (Gentile Age)?”

Having just learned of the Gentile Age and the Lord’s second coming a few minutes before, they, naturally, had new questions about both.

Memory Verse

“Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.” John 21:22

What did Jesus say to Peter about John?

“I will that he _____________ ______ ____ _________ .”

“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.”

Revelation 19:11

Did John see Jesus’ second coming before He died?

“And ____ ________ heaven opened, and behold a white

horse; and he that sat upon him.”

Memory Verse

“But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” Matthew 24:13

What will happen to those who endure?

“The same shall be ________________ .”

Until what time must they endure?

“He that shall endure unto the _____________ .”

What must he do until the end to be saved?

“He that shall _______________ unto the end.”

To “endure” in this verse means to remain faithful during times of trouble.”

The “end” referred to here could be the end of the age or the end of the trouble that is being endured.

Being “saved” here refers to being saved from whatever the “trouble” is that is being endured.

It could be that the “end” refereed to the end of the temple as spoken of by Jesus in verse 2. This signaled the end of the Apostolic Age. This verse does not refer to the end of the Church Age or of the Gentile Age introduced by Jesus in Luke 21:24, which will occur long after the “end” spoken of in the above verse.

The “he” in this verse would apply to John who was the only apostle that lived beyond the end of the Apostolic Age and the end of the temple, along with all believers who heeded Jesus’ warning of the coming judgment perpetrated by the Jewish leaders’ rejection and crucifixion of Jesus at the end of the Dispensation of Law.

What can we learn from this? If we want to be delivered from coming personal temporal judgment before the Rapture, we must be faithful when things do not go the way we want them to.

I have seen some believers become unfaithful to church for many reasons, but seldom was it because they were persecuted for Christ’s sake.

Memory Verse

“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” Matthew 24:14

What would happen before the end would come?

“This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in ______

_____ _____________.”

The question arises: the end of what? If the answer is the end of the temple or the end of the Apostolic Age, then this would have to be fulfilled before A.D. 70. Paul wrote in the book of Colossians shortly before his death:

“If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister.” Colossians 1:23

Memory Verse

“And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?” Luke 21:7

After Jesus prophesied the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem two days before His last Passover, what two things did His disciples ask Him?

“(1) ___________ shall things (the destruction of the

temple) be? and (2) what ____________ will there be

when these things shall come to pass?”

The apostles were expecting Jesus to rule from the city of Jerusalem, and they were expecting to rule with Him. The fact that the city and the sanctuary would soon be destroyed was quite a shock for them.

Memory Verse

“And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.” Luke 21:24

What new prophecy did Jesus give the apostles after answering their question about a sign for the timing of the destruction of the temple?

“Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the

__________ ____ _____ ______________ be fulfilled .”

Jesus’ introduction of the Gentile Age to the apostles surely came as a greater shock than even the destruction of the temple.

What would be the single characteristic of the Gentile Age?

“Jerusalem shall be _________ _______ of the Gentiles.”

Memory Verse

“And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.” Luke 21:27

What event is spoken of in this verse?

“Then shall they see the ____ ___ _______ ___________

in a cloud with power and great glory.”

This statement was a shock to the disciples. It was bad enough that Jesus had just said that Jerusalem and the temple was going to be destroyed, but now then He told them that we would come again. He would leave His people just when it appeared that they needed Him most.

However, this was actually a very encouraging verse, because, when He returned, then he would begin His one thousand year Kingdom reign. The judgment would be a response for their disobedience and ultimate rejection of Him by their nation’s leaders that would take place in the next couple of days.
